Palm Treo Pro Delayed, But Does Anyone Care? [Palm]

Looks like the release date for Palm’s Treo Pro is pushed back from tomorrow all the way to February 15th. But with all the buzz around the Pre, we have to wonder who’ll care.

We liked the Treo Pro, on Sprint’s network, just fine; Adrian called it “the best hardware Palm has ever made” and noted that it even ran very snappy with Windows Mobile 6.1. But let’s face it, the Treo Pro doesn’t come close to the Pre in terms of innovation or attention. So we’re not too bummed to hear the Treo Pro’s release date was pushed back a few weeks. Is anybody still waiting on the handset, or has the siren call of WebOS cancelled out any interest in the Treo line? [Crunchgear]

Obama Supports Warrantless Wiretapping, Just Like Bush [Privacy]

So much for change: Wired reports that Obama’s administration is lining with Bush on supporting the warrantless-eavesdropping program, urging the courts to drop a case against it. Paraphrasing Stewart: It’s only f*ck*ng day one.

Option GlobeSurfer III 3G Wi-Fi Hotspot Has a Screen and USB Port [Routers]

Option’s cool little 3G router makes a WiFi hotspot out of a 3G signal, providing pretty good download/upload speeds in the process. It’ll also let you plug in networked devices like hard drives and printers.

The GlobeSurfer features a built-in screen that’ll let you control its various options, and impressive speeds: download is 7.2 Mbps and upload is 5.76 Mbps. It’s got a USB port for networked peripherals as well. Unfortunately, it does require a power supply, so it may not be great for camping trips, but it’s a nice proof of concept. Pricing and release date haven’t been released, but it shouldn’t be far off. [Electronista]

Image of the Day: If Microsoft Ever Bought Target [Image Of The Day]

Some Halo player imagines what it would look like if Microsoft ever purchased Target. Hah. [Halolz - Thanks Marco!]

Note: Don’t take it seriously. It’s just a funny image I thought I’d pass along.

First Shots of LG VX9600 Versa Tease Detachable Keyboard [Unconfirmed]

If our eyes don’t deceive us, these are the first shots of the upcoming LG VX9600, a touchscreen phone with modular components.

The LC VX9600 (sporting a Verizon logo here) tempts us with the prospect of a detachable QWERTY keyboard, which would allow you to slim down your phone’s packaging when heavy emailing wasn’t in your near future. Beyond QWERTY, we may see other modular components as well, including gamepads and speakers. It’s like something we might see from Bug Labs, but fully functional without knowledge of JAVA coding. Tmsuk T-34 robot speaks softly, carries a big net

We’ve seen robots controlled by cellphones before, but nothing quite like the T-34 from Tmsuk, creator of an amazing variety of bots that range from whimsical to menacing. The T-34 falls somewhere in-between, looking decidedly like a purple monster truck that’s been granted the ability to trap — or at least inconvenience — baddies. A remote operator can get a live feed of what the T-34 is seeing and then fire a large weighted net when the target is in range. As you can see in the video below it does look to be rather challenging for this loafer-wearing mock burglar to extract himself, but once free we’re not sure what else the T-34 can do other than bleat helplessly while waiting for someone with arms to show up. Just the same, if you’re looking to put a damper on your local criminal activity and have $9,000 to spare, Tmsuk will be happy to sell you one — in about two years when they become available.

Rumor: 10-inch Acer Aspire One to replace 8.9-incher

We’re hearing some murmurings today that Acer’s planning on replacing its current, 8.9-inch Aspire One with the previously seen 10.1-inch Aspire One (the 103), phasing out the former. The new model will pack a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, and 1GB of RAM, optional 3G, SDHC card slot, and 3 USB ports — relatively standard fare, to be sure — though it’s going to come in a few sexy colors we sure do like the looks of Sure, Digitimes (the source of this rumor) isn’t necessarily the most reliable paper we read in the morning with our coffee, but this particular tidbit doesn’t strike us as terribly far-fetched. We’ll have to (reportedly) wait until sometime in the second quarter to find out for sure, though. In the meantime: calm down.

Update: This worst-kept secret is now official, with Acer confirming plans to release its rumored 10-incher, but not saying just when or for how much. The confirmed specs are exactly what we expected — go figure.
