Oh Rolly… we know you’re an overpriced, 2GB dancing robot with convoluted controls and questionable sound quality. But dammit, your impractical, big-corporate ways have gnawed a soft-spot deep into the noxious cesspool we call a heart. Now this: Rolly model SEP-50BT with Bluetooth control from your cellphone or laptop. Shipping in Japan on November 21st for an expected ¥40,000 or about $427. Sold. Watch it all unfold in the video after the break.

Amazon’s Give 1, Get 1 OLPC XO program now live

You know the drill: for $399 you buy one OLPC XO laptop and a second is sent to a child somewhere in the developing world. Same deal as last year only now with the help of Amazon’s powerful retail reach. Devices begin shipping in about 30 days — a bit longer outside the US. Naturally you can also just gift the $199 laptop direct to a kid of OLPC’s choosing. About the quickest way to become a donor short of meeting a hotel stranger in possession of roofies and a bathtub full of ice.

Alpine Capsule Is Probably Aliens’ Favorite Refuge on Earth [Architecture]

Something weird must be going on in the Alps, because alien structures keep popping up like circles in the English crops and people insist on doing jacuzzi parties at 15,700 feet. Take this shiny Alpine Capsule, a beautiful—if not eerie—26-feet in diameter mountain shelter designed by Studio Lovegrove that seems to be made of mercury.

In reality, the shelter uses a double glass structural skin, offering a 360 degree view of the Dolomites at an altitude of 2,100 meters. The Alpine Capsule will be powered by external solar panels and vertical wind turbines. Located in the Italian Alps, construction will begin in 2010. [Dezeen]

Caution: This Sign May Be Awesome [Signs]

If the economy has taught us anything, it’s that the traditional caution sign has been a failure at warning us of the dynamically shifting troubled waters ahead. For example, whereas a traditional caution sign might warn of a rock falling on your house, a more modern caution sign might warn of said rock falling on you, as the subprime mortgage crisis has already sucked away everything you hold dear. And it’s with this necessity for new warning systems that we present to you this stickman caution sign. It’s $12 and completely posable, depending on which way you think you’re most likely to kill yourself given the particular day. [ThinkGeek via bbGadgets]
