Limited-Edition Mimobot RayD8gig Glows in Dark For Halloween [Mimobots]

Fans of the undeniably geek-chic Mimobot flash drives will be pleased to hear there’s a new edition out for this year’s fast-approaching All Hallow’s Even… the RayD8gig. It’s an 8-gigabyte inverse color version of RayD8, and it glows in the dark, ohoho yes. But if you’re tempted you need to move fast: there’s a strictly limited edition of just 200 of these hitting the streets. Yours, skeletally, for $100. [Mimoco]

Man Stuff - The Best of Uncrate [Roundups]

This week at Uncrate: We hit the streets on the 2009 Honda DN-01, celebrate The Shining with a trip to Come Play With Us, and defend ourselves against the undead with Zombie Tools. We also kick it Patrick Ewing-style with the Adidas Conductor Felt DP, savor the aged taste of The Last Drop Whisky, and smooth out our projects with the Craftsman Professional Vibrafree Sander. Finally, we upgrade our home bar with a Jägermeister Tap Machine, plan a trip to New Orleans for Voodoo Experience 2008, and scare away the neighborhood trick-or-treaters with the Boo T-Shirt.

Die Halloween TiVo! Die! [TiVo]

The 10th installment of arieScope’s annual Halloween short film just might be its best. TiVo is the star of the show this year, and the video does a good job of exposing its dark side. At first TiVo just wants to get to know you—learn your preferences to create a customized TV-watching experience. Careful though—TiVo is sensitive. Friendship turns to an obsession, obsession leads to jealousy, jealously leads to cat murder and cat murder leads to…well, you’ll see. Bwahahahaha! [ariescope via Zats]

Apricot yanks Linux option for PicoBook Pro: it’s for your own good

Just last week, we heard that Apricot Computers would be offering its PicoBook Pro with Linux or Windows XP, but evidently its marketing department caught wind of the same trend that MSI picked up on earlier this month. If you’ll recall, MSI found that Linux-infused netbooks get returned four times as often as units with Windows XP, and while the official word is that Apricot “made this decision to ensure customers had a smooth installation of their operating system,” our bets are that it’s just sidestepping the potential headaches associated with selling something outside of the status quo. As of today, the Windows XP version (or only version, as it were) is going for £299 ($483) — a full £20 ($32) more than the previously cheapest edition.

Thor Shield Taser-Proof Vest Coming to Protect Your Torso from the Man [Tasers]

You’ve seen the patent, and now it’s becoming a reality: yes, taser-proof vests are coming. The “Thor Shield” was designed for police officers but sure to be more popular amongst protesters and other people who piss off police officers. It uses a layer of foil in the vest to draw the current of the taser, keeping your body nice and jolt-free. That’ll really come in handy the next time you foolishly decide to get out of your car to argue with a cop at a traffic stop or decide to protest any of the government’s actions. T-Mobile G1 Users Having Data Activation Problems? [T-mobile G1]

At least a few people who got their T-Mobile G1 in the mail today—one day before the official launch—are having issues activating the data plan with their SIM card. One person was told by customer service that they simply couldn’t use it until tomorrow, although T-Mobile PR has assured us that’s not the case, and that anyone having problems should try turning the phone off and back on. Failing that, hit up customer service, though it doesn’t appear to have been too helpful in Andrea’s case. Have any of guys been had data issues? [Android Forums]

BenQ Joybook R46 arrives in China, Thailand and Malaysia

The last time we saw some new Joybooks they were these cute little 10.1-inch things, but the new R46 is their professional-minded older sibling (the Alex P. Keaton to your Mallory, perhaps). This sober, serious machine sports a 14.1-inch “UltraVivid” WXGA display, a Core 2 Duo T3400 processor, integrated x4500 graphics, up to 4GB RAM, up to 320GB storage and all the love that WiFi and Bluetooth provide. And if video conferencing is your bag, you’ll be please to note that it comes with a 2 megapixel webcam and microphone with smart noise suppression. Available now in China, Thailand and Malaysia — but the price remains a mystery.

Nothing fulfills the need for companionship like the cold hard steel of a robot. The gentle whooshing of gears and servos floats misty lavender doughnuts of joy into the hearts of even the most severely disabled farmers. So we’re stoked to see that researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology have taken the best attributes of our canine helpers and applied them to the EI-E helper robot. Like a service dog trained to grab hold of a towel to manipulate doors and drawers, the domestic robot can navigate the complexities of your home decor and respond to laser pointed or voice-commands such as push, pull, and a variety of hot tugging actions. Drape that thing in a plush, doughboy suit and we’ll be singing Ee i Ee i Oh! all the way home.

Question of the Day: Do You Ever Turn Off Your Cellphone? [Question Of The Day]

A recent survey taken by Nokia claimed that 53% of Americans have taken business calls in the bathroom. Of those surveyed, 60% never shut off their mobile devices. To be honest, I would have thought that second figure would be higher—but all-in-all the results of this survey are no surprise. Most of us feel the need to be constantly connected. We take our phones with us everywhere, ready to go at a moments notice. So, I am curious: do you ever turn off your cellphone?

Results from: “Do You Ever Read the Instruction Manual?

Yes: 19%
Yes, but only when I am dealing with something complicated: 19%
Yes, but only when I get stuck: 44%
