PS3 Ad is Aimed at Elusive ‘Fat Guy Looking to Become a Skinny Girl’ Demographic [Ads]

Another day, another strange, mildly unsettling Playstation 3 ad. This time, it shows people as human Matroska Russian dolls. You see, fat guys of America? If you finally want to becoming the skinny, attractive girl that you’ve always wanted to be, simply buy a PS3. Makes perfect sense to me! Also, people who are looking to meet skinny, attractive girls via online gaming: she’s probably a fat dude. You’ve been warned. [Arab Aquarius via NotCot]

This little creation here might not be the most impressive homebuilt Terminator bot we’ve seen, and a certain DVD player may have it beat for realism, but as far as talking LEGO robot heads go, it’s certainly at least in the upper ranks. Apparently, this one was pieced together from a whole slew of different LEGO Mindstorms sets, and it even includes a LEGO ice pick that can be stuck in his eye if he really starts to get on your nerves, which seems a near certainty. Somewhat interestingly, the bot’s creator only decided to build the skull after abandoning another mysterious LEGO project that’s only described as “too ambitious.” Head on past the break for a video of the bot doing its thing, and hit up the link below for a complete overview of the project.

Verizon has confirmed rumors that it would join other carriers by offering a contract-free service for customers who prefer not to be tied down by the man. As expected, you must pay full, unsubsidized prices for phones in order to be eligible (or bring your own CDMA devices), but the press release does not mention anything about activation fee requirements. The new service is available now on all Nationwide Voice and Data plans for both new and current contract customers. UPDATE: Activation fees are required.

Last week iRex promised that a “new era in digital reading” would begin on the 22nd. While the new 1000 series isn’t exactly a “new era,” iRex has been in the e-reader biz since the beginning and their new lineup is certainly worth checking out. Intel officially ships 1.6GHz dual-core Atom 330 processor

Wait, what’s this? Intel’s shipping the dual-core Atom 330? Despite reports that the 1.6GHz chip wouldn’t actually leave the dock until Q4, Intel itself has stepped up to ensure everyone that it’s getting ‘em out in Q3. The brief points out the obvious — you know, that the 330 was designed with nettops in mind — while also confirming that it boasts 1MB of L2 cache, an 8-watt TDP and support for DDR2 667. So yeah, let’s get these in some systems, shall we?

MSI’s Wind U90 gets unboxed on video

You’ve seen the Wind U90 MSI has wanted you to see — you know, that version it brings to trade shows, possibly showered and cleaned up by professionals beforehand. But the U90 you’re about to see in the video past the break is the real deal. Ordered from Canada and shipped to the US of A, this 8.9-inch Wind looks pretty much exactly like its larger-screened sibling save for a bigger bezel and a few French symbols on the keyboard. But why listen to us spell it out when you can just click through and mash play?

Oobject Roundup: Crazy Movie Camera Cars [Hollywood Magic]

In-car movie cameras are ridiculously complicated. Gone are the days where Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman gab while an unconvincing film loop plays behind them—now people at the wheel are really hurtling down a highway with bonus hardware all around. The Dukes of Hazzard vehicle above is one of the craziest examples, because it was built to stay on the road while the cab jacked back and forth to simulate those good ole’ car stunts. Below is another one, apparently from the thriller Deja Vu. Our friends at Oobject have a lot more, 12 total. Go vote for your favorite. [Oobject]

LG Renoir Surfaces; Shows Off Touchscreen, 8MP Camera, Fingerprints [LG Renoir]

We brought you a shiny stock image of LG’s Viewty successor, the Renoir, back in August, and today we’re bringing you the requisite fingerprint-laden in the wild photos (with watermarks!). They give a more accurate depiction of this puppy’s 8MP monster, complete with Schneider-Kreuznach certified optics, xenon flash and ISO up to 1600. There’s a phone in there too, with quad-band GSM, a 3-inch touchscreen, GPS, Bluetooth 2.0, and Wifi. The Renoir will be available sometime in October. Maybe they’ll take that plastic band off the outside by then. [Toys and Gadgets via BGR]

Fuji’s 3D Camera System [Digital Cameras]

Fuji announced a 3d digital imaging system that uses modern image processors to take images with similar quality found in modern cameras. The dual lens system can also be used for future applications including instantly stiched together panoramas from two simultaneous shots, or using one CCD to shoot video while the other shoots stills. (Things regular cameras can do now, with not much difficulty.) What’s interesting is that Fuji simultaneously developed a 3D imaging ecosystem including an 8.4 inch, 3D LCD display that needs no glasses and a 3D printer. [Let’s go Digital]
