Standing up and manually closing curtains is for old people and luddites. What we roll with is of the mechanical variety, preferably hooked up to something like a WiiMote to give it that extra bit of nerdiness. This WiiMote curtain project is exactly what we mean. Sure, it’s not 1:1 arm to curtain movement, but that’s exactly the point of not wanting to close the curtain with your arm, manually. Isn’t it? [Hasse.nl]

We have already seen some of the phones in LGs KF lineup, and now it seems that the company will be showing off a few more phones at next week’s CeBIT show in Germany. The KF750 codenamed “Libra” appears to be a touchscreen slider with a 5 megapixel camera, VGA cam for video calls, and 160MB of internal memory with a microSD card slot.
As for the KF240 and the KF300, little is known other than the 240 is apparently a music phone with a 2 megapixel camera. At any rate, we should know more in the coming days. However, if you want to get your hands on the KF750 now, a Romanian auction site claims that they have one—and they appear to be selling it for 399 Euros ($600) [Unwired View and Auction Site]

It looks like Apple will keep their Time Capsule “February” shipping estimate with only a day or two to spare. Pre-order customers just received word their shipments are being prepared. [AppleInsider]

I never thought that speakers could give me the same feeling that I get when I see a beautifully designed car, but some of the entries in C4DCafe’s speaker rendering challenge have done just that (and some of them are just plain weird). The only problem is that putting one of these designs in my home would make all my other stuff look like crap. Hit the link to check out all of the designs along with the winners. If we were handy enough to build our own sinks, we’d build one exactly like this “The Ripple” faucet, designed by Smith Newnam, which equates relative ball movement to the temperature and amount of water flowing out. Hot water makes the LED glow red, while cold makes it glow blue, and the two hot and cold channels mix together in the open air to make for your desired temperature. Awesome? Definitely. Practical? Not so much. Just try moving that ball around without accidentally touching the scorching water. [Flickr via Yanko Design]

Swedish designers Per Emanuelsson and Bastian Bischoff believe that their Surveillance Lamp is “Orwellian” in the sense that it is an “ambiguous reflection of their thoughts about the political future.” That’s deep and everything but the bottom line is that a lamp modeled after surveillance cameras looks pretty damn cool. The only question is whether or not it is cool enough to drop over 50,00 EUR ($7,500) on—because that is where the bidding is on Ebay right now with about 6 days left. Despite the fact that consoles have become the primary platform for most gamers, there is still a diehard fanbase that prefer PCs based on factors like the online experience you get with games like WOW, the level of control that a keyboard and mouse can bring, as well as the potential for better performance. So the question is, where do your loyalties lie?

What happens to your intellectual property if you die in some kind of nasty accident? Worried, perhaps, that your life’s work would be stifled by 70 years of copyright protection, meant to benefit only your ungrateful dependents? Why not donate it all to the public domain? Affix this (legally binding?) sticker on your driver’s license, in the place generally reserved for organ donor information, and you’re good to go. After all, who needs your kidney when the world could freely enjoy your crappy poetry instead? [ni9e via Make]

You know that $100 Sharper Image gift certificate you got for Christmas? The one that’s now not being accepted while the company’s going through bankruptcy proceedings? Turns out you can head to Brookstone, the other purveyor of fairly useless light-up gadgets that you stick up your nose to generate ozone, and get 25% off any purchase. What’s even better is that you can take any gift card there, regardless of value, so feel free to trade in a $10 gift card for a quarter off a vibrating jacuzzi submarine with built-in alarm clock and personal organizer. If you have an expensive bicycle, it might be a wise decision to invest in a serious lock that is capable of foiling would-be thieves. These Bike Chain Cuffs offer just such a solution with a design modeled after standard issue police handcuffs. Made from hardened laminated steel, a hardened pivot link and a heat-treated patented lock core, these cuffs are virtually indestructible—which is why they come with a lifetime guarantee. It is no wonder these suckers will set you back around $157. [Firebox via Random Good Stuff]
