Legitimate (read: legal) Famicom support for your DS Lite may seem like a dream come true for the retro gamer, but Cyber Gadget’s Cyber Famulator Lite might be a little much to ask for all but the geekiest. You have to strap on a (barely) pared down “famiclone” system onto your cute little portable, but pulling out and blowing into a dirty old Metroid cart on the go will no doubt be a privilege for some.

We don’t yet know for sure what’s up, but we’re hearing that customers of Voce, the luxury MVNO based on AT&T’s network, woke up on February 1st to zero service, dead customer service lines, and even some crazier claims like being double-billed for the final month of service. We gave their sales lines — usually the very last thing to go down — a ring, and got no reply. It’s possible this could be some kind of huge misunderstanding and outage on Voce’s part, which we do hope it is, because if they did shut down they certainly did so in about the most abrupt, impudent way imaginable. Either way, looks like guys are going to be out for the count — we wouldn’t exactly expect a mobile phone provider to go completely dark, ignore its customers for days, and expect to retain any business.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Not like Windows Mobile 6.1 is an elaborate mystery or anything — heck, we even know all about the improvements it’s slated to bring — but there’s nothing like a bucketful of screenshots surrounded by machine translated opinions to really revive that enthusiasm. Sure enough, the folks over at PocketPT were able get ahold of the software and show off just how it handled webpage zooming, threaded SMS conversations and Office 2007 documents. Still not convinced? Go on and hit the read link — you skeptic, you.

We though we’d seen it all when it came to creative device destruction — iPod with a bullet: check, exploding laptops: check, everything in a blender: double check — but we’ve never seen anything spend over an hour on the highway and survive. Yet that’s exactly what Mike Beauchamp’s iPhone did after he left it on his trunk and drove off from a gas station — and the kicker is that just as he was about to run out and grab it, he watched it get run over by a semi truck. Shockingly, the unit still work perfectly, even receiving a call as Mike finally nabbed it. Obviously, it’s missing a few chunks and there are some broken pixels, but the touch sensitivity is solid, and it sounds like Mike’s been talking to Apple PR about using it in a promo — how’s that for random luck? Check the read link for a few more pics of the damage.

baby-gets-trapped-in-apple-mac.jpgSteve Jobs has lost control. The world is doomed. [Optical Illusions]

handheldsunmbeam_main.jpgThe Maxablaster is a 38-million-candlepower flashlight that was made at home by (mad?) optics engineer Ralf Ottow. Replacing a commercial flashlight’s bulb with a plasma-powered mercury arc bulb, the Maxablaster creates a highly focused beam of light with a high UV content not so different from a star.

So UV-filtering glass was added to block the potentially harmful rays—though evidently this thing is still plenty bright enough to burn skin, as it has Ottow’s on at least one occasion. In real world application, the flashlight can illuminate a cloud that’s four miles in the air, or scare the neighbors by lighting up their house from the same distance.

One things for sure: when the vampires finally come out of hiding (a few hundred years after the robot apocalypse) we’re calling this guy.

And then we’re gonna be all like, “I see your Schwartz is as big as mine.” (Sorry, we held that joke back until our arms were trembling.) [popsci]

Zune8GB%20GI.jpgThe 8GB Zune seems to have received a no-fuss $20 price cut. The reduction has not taken effect across the board, but we’ve managed to track the $179.99 8GB Zune to Amazon, Best Buy, Circuit City and Buy.com, all without any official word. Buy.com are only currently offering the black 8GB Zune at the knocked down price point, but we expect their systems may not have been updated just yet. Either way, you can now get your mitts on an 8GB Zune for $179.99 from a string of the major retailers, which means the 4GB player costs $30 less for half the capacity. More price cutting on the horizon? It would make sense. [Bostonpocketpc]

Have you been wanting to upgrade your Zune, but waiting for the price to drop a bit? Then check out Amazon’s latest deal on the 8GB Microsoft Zune, priced at just $179.99 shipped. Video review after the break. Product page.

No word on what spurred the $20 price drop — hey, Microsoft is feeling rather generous today — but if you were looking for 8GBs of the social, now seems like as good a time as any

The Singing Ringing Tree is basically a “musical sculpture overlooking Burnley”, made from galvanized steel pipes. Video after the break.

The sculpture was designed by MIke Tonkin and Anna Liu, and was made from galvanized steel pipes. When the wind blows, the “tree” sings an eerie tune

Mike Beuchamp’s iPhone somehow managed to survive being run over by a semi truck, with just some major scratches, case/screen damage, and dings. Click here for first picture in gallery. Here’s how it happened:
