We’re well aware the first three words on the Xbox Live service status box are “up and running,” but those issues are continuing to persist, and if our flooded tip jar and the Xbox Live forums are anything to go by, they’re probably not just “intermittent”. If you’re (still) seeing issues, as always feel free to shout it out, as well as hit our poll so we can keep track of just how severe this stuff is. (So far, of those polled who’ve been trying to use Live, roughly 75% responded that they’ve been experiencing moderate to severe issues.)

Office Depot Featured Gadget: Xbox 360 Platinum System Packs the power to bring games to life!

While anything is obviously possible, it sure seems like the safe bet is that Apple will unveil some form of ultraportable laptop at MacWorld in a couple of weeks, and it now looks like the rumor mill is starting to pick up again with even more purported details. This latest round comes to us from the folks at Mac Rumors, who say they’ve heard “reliable confirmation” about a couple of the new features, including an external optical drive on the aforementioned ultraportable. What’s more, they say that Apple will also be introducing “more than one notebook revision,” including at least one that will incorporate a multi-touch trackpad. Again, a reasonable bet, but we’ll just have to wait until the man himself takes the stage on the 15th to finally put this rumor to rest and gear up for the next.

macbookpro0420061024.jpegMacrumors is reporting that the rumored ultraportable Macbook we’re hoping for at Macworld 08 is to have Multitouch trackpad and external optical. The optical makes sense, and is welcome. The Multitouch Trackpad rumor is a curiousity: Macbooks already use simple multitouch in trackpads for two-finger scrolling. Maybe a Leopard update will allow for things like zooming and swiping, like the iPhone. [Macrumors]

It’s just a rumor, but bigbag got an unofficial quote from a Microsoft rep stating “…we will definitely be doing something for our Gold members that weren’t able to get online over the last week.” [Kotaku]

Axiotron announced that it has begun shipping the ModBook OS X Tablet. At $2,279, it’s touted as the world’s first and only Mac Tablet. Video after the break.

First unveiled nearly a year ago at Macworld 2007, the MacBook-based, Wacom-modified Modbook has definitely seen its share of delays, although in the days and months since, the 13.3-inch slate has gained the distinction of being one of the few pieces of non-Cupertino, Apple-approved hardware

In the latest major twist in this epic battle between wireless chipmakers, a US District Judge has slapped a permanent injunction on any products containing those Qualcomm 3G chips ruled to be infringing on Broadcom’s so-called ‘686 patents. Not only can Qualcomm no longer offer infringing devices nor the chips themselves in the US, the retroactive nature of the ruling means that the company can’t even provide service or technical support for ‘686 products already on the market. At this point, with a voluntary licensing agreement seemingly off the table, the next move for Qualcomm is establishing a plan of action to show Judge James Selna how it plans to redesign its products into compliance. Office Depot Featured Gadget: Xbox 360 Platinum System Packs the power to bring games to life!

It looks like that Mega Drive Portable we caught sight of a couple of months back is no longer exclusive to retro-happy gamers in Brazil, as a suspiciously similar-looking device has recently turned up for order at Play-Asia.com. As with the TecToy version, this one from AtGames is apparently officially licensed by Sega, and includes the very same line-up of twenty Genesis titles, including Golden Axe and Altered Beast, among other games with decidedly less hacking and slashing. Best of all, this incarnation the handheld is also a good deal cheaper than the TecToy, with it setting you back just $40. According to some early buyers, however, it seems that the emulation isn’t entirely faithful to the originals, but at that price it’s hard to complain too much.

Of all the weeks to have a major outage of your online gaming service, the holiday and vacation weeks of Christmas and New Years may have to be the worst — which Microsoft has learned all to well over the last ten days. We know you’ve heard plenty about it here at Engadget — but that’s really only because Xbox Live has had such a solid track record over the years, and we’re all just as surprised as you. But while it’s perfectly clear users have been seeing these issues, it’s still unclear exactly how “intermittent” those issues really are. Care to let us know how you’ve fared in our wholly unscientific poll?
